Shoulder screws, or shoulder bolts, are fasteners specially designed to maintain alignment while joining two separate components. They accomplish this with a unique unthreaded cylindrical shoulder below the head. All shoulder screws function the same once inserted, with the main differences between them being size and head configuration. Socket head shoulder screws have a hexagonal recess and are driven by a hex wrench or Allen wrench. Because of its shape, it may go by the name of a hex head screw.
We offer socket head shoulder screws in sizes to meet virtually every application. Request a quote from our team today.
Common Applications for Socket Head Shoulder Screws
You will find these screws commonly used in sliding and rotations where a decent amount of tensile strength is necessary, and they are useful with punch and die work. The fastening capabilities make socket shoulder screws good for working with:
- Bushings
- Bearings
- Motion guiding
- Machinery support
- Precision spacing
Choosing the Right Socket Shoulder Screws
Shoulder screws come with several head styles that, once inserted, all function the same. Therefore, you should select the type based on which head style best fits your application. You need several pieces of information to select the correct screw:
- Thread length: measurement from the start of the threads to the end of the screw
- Thread size: the spacing and size of screw threads
- Shoulder length: measurement that accounts for the bottom of the screw head down to the end of the shoulder
- Shoulder diameter: width of the unthreaded shoulder
- Head length: top-to-base measurement of the screw head
- Head diameter: width of the screw head
At PIC Design, you can select from several sizes of socket head shoulder screws. We carry both standard inch and metric sizes.
We offer the following standard size ranges:
Type | Shoulder Diameter | Thread Size | Shoulder Length |
