Phillips Head Shoulder Screws

Phillips Head Shoulder Screws

Shoulder screws, or shoulder bolts, are fasteners specially designed to maintain alignment while joining two separate components. They accomplish this with a unique unthreaded cylindrical shoulder below the head. All shoulder screws function the same once inserted, with the main differences between them being size and head configuration. Phillips head shoulder screws use the standard Phillips cruciform shape head to reduce cam out when tightening.

Applications for Phillips Head Shoulder Screws

The Phillips-style screw head allows for greater torque when fastening compared to a slotted style. This makes these screws ideal for applications requiring accuracy, alignment, and load-bearing capabilities.

Shoulder screws are widely used in virtually every industry, including automotive, gas, military, and oil. They are especially valuable in electronics applications that require precise alignment.

Shoulder screws are commonly found in:

  • Bushings
  • Bearings
  • Motion guiding
  • Machinery support
  • Precision spacing

Choosing a Phillips Head Shoulder Screw

Shoulder screws come with several head styles that, once inserted, all function the same. Therefore, you should select the type based on which head style best fits your application. You need several pieces of information to select the correct screw:

  • Thread length: measurement from the start of the threads to the end of the screw
  • Thread size: the spacing and size of screw threads
  • Shoulder length: measurement that accounts for the bottom of the screw head down to the end of the shoulder
  • Shoulder diameter: width of the unthreaded shoulder
  • Head length: top-to-base measurement of the screw head
  • Head diameter: width of the screw head

At PIC Design, you can select from several sizes of Phillips head shoulder screws. We carry both standard inch and metric sizes.
