Retaining Rings are typically inserted into a groove to hold components or assemblies onto a shaft or in a housing/bore. Once installed, the ring acts as a shoulder that accurately positions, locates and retains other parts of the component or assembly.
There are a variety of retaining ring types depending on the needs of an applications. External retaining rings fit over a shaft while internal retaining rings fit inside a bore. Bowed Retaining rings are curved and are designed to exert a pre-load on an assembly. This keeps the assembly in compression by acting like a spring. PIC Design offers Internal, External, External Gripping, E-Ring, and Bowed retaining rings in both inch and metric sizes.
